DOA: Dead Or Alive
Based on the Tecmo/team ninja fighting game series, Dead or Alive hit the big screens on September 2006. A martial art film directed by Corey Yuen, starring Jaime Presley, Holly Valance, Devon Aoki, Natasha Malthe and Sarah Carter. Before the release of the movie, avid fans and players of the 1996 video game can not longer wait for its release when the movie trailer and sneak previews began to air in cinemas.
In Dead or Alive, four women begins as rivals in an underground invitational martial arts contest and ends up teaming with each other to battle against a sinister force. Tina Armstrong, played by Jamie Presley, is a professional American wrestler who enters the tournament to prove to her critics that she is not a fake. Christie Allen, played by Holly Valance, is a cat-thief and assassin for hire. Kasumi, played by Devon Aoki, is an Asian warrior-aristocrat, schooled by martial arts masters and flees her temple to seek out the truth of her brother's “death”. And Helen Douglas, played by Sarah Carter, is an extreme sports athlete whose tragic past binds her to the remote palace in Southeast Asia where the Dead or Alive tournament takes place. She is competing in her first tournament and hopes to win in honor of her late father's memory.
During September 2006, the film was released and many users debated that the rating of the movie would be R due to the mature rating of the video game and partial nudity through actress Holly Valance as showed in the movie trailer. The film was a box-office bomb after making $ 260,00 in 21 days and grossed $ 480,000 worldwide. The film was somewhat more successful overseas, making over $6,000,000 in the foreign box office, with almost 1 million in both the U.K. and Australia.
